The black backup box can store 1TB of data, just a simple USB 3.0 connection away from sharing with your computer, and the top of it also acts as [sensitive multi-touch trackpad](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyper-trackpad-pro) to clear that mouse from your desk. The [data storage device](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-speed-gd10) is made from carbon fiber and glass, taking technology towards more eco-friendly manufacturing practices. The transparent base of the LaCie Float Hard Drive will even light up to provide an ambient glow depending on its observation of the level of the room's illumination. Designed by André Duarte Silva, this laptop accessory is at the top of my tech must-have list. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 33% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Multi-touch Trackpads:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating advanced, multi-functional trackpads for laptops and computer peripherals. - **Eco-friendly Manufacturing:** Disruption opportunity lies in developing more sustainable and environmentally-friendly manufacturing practices for technology products. - **Ambient Illumination:** Potential for disruptive innovation in incorporating ambient illumination features in tech devices to enhance user experience. ### Where This Applies - **Data Storage:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in designing storage devices that combine high capacity data storage with additional functionalities like multi-touch trackpads. - **Technology Manufacturing:** Disruption opportunity in the technology manufacturing sector by adopting eco-friendly materials and processes for product development. - **Laptop Accessories:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating laptop accessories that integrate advanced features like ambient illumination and multi-touch trackpads. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Monolithic Desktop Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/unidentifed-hard-disk-drive.md) - [Textural Mobile Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/compact-ssd.md) - [Desk-Mounted Hard Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hard-drive-concept.md) - [Steampunk Multifunctional Computer Mouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/d-mouse.md) - [Shipping Container Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive1.md) - [Playful External Hard-Disk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cargo-hard-drive.md) - [Icon-Shaped USB Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folderdrive.md) - [Future-Facing External Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-mobile-drive.md) - [Screen-Equipped Computer Peripherals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/magic-mouse-touch.md)
