# Secure Black Box Backups LaCie Cloudbox Doubles the Security for your Files By Matt Ho | Published 2011-06-30 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-cloudbox References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/lacie-cloudbox-cloud-hard-drive-hybrid/19024/) & [lacie](http://www.lacie.com/us/products/product.htm?id=10563) Despite the name, the LaCie Cloudbox has nothing to do with [Apple's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/move-speed-gd10) iCloud. The LaCie Cloudbox is a hard drive that does more than expected. To get the basics out of the way, it's a data storage device that holds 100GB memory. Here's where you see the beauty of this item: once you store your files, those same files are then sent off to a [secure server called the Cloud](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/softmask). This means you have a physical backup *and* an online one, should something happen to your device. So suppose your hard drive got fried, you can still go on the Web to retrieve your data. The server is completely protected with a password and a 128-bit AES encryption that even LaCie supposedly can't circumvent, according to Gizmag. The LaCie Cloudbox will be available for both PC and [Macs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apple-silicon-macs). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 14% | Activity: 10% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Dual Backups:** Creating both physical and online backups for data storage devices. - **Secure Servers:** Utilizing secure servers with encryption to protect stored data. - **Cloud Storage:** Storing files on remote servers accessible via the internet. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Data Storage:** Opportunity for companies to develop innovative backup solutions for data storage. - **Cybersecurity:** Opportunity for cybersecurity companies to enhance encryption methods and protect stored data. - **Cloud Computing:** Opportunity for cloud service providers to provide secure storage solutions for individuals and businesses. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intelligent Personal Cloud Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zimacube-personal-cloud.md) - [Budget-Friendly Portable Storage Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portable-nas.md) - [Cloud Alternative Data Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/western-digital-my-book-duo-44tb.md) - [Automated File Backup Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/synology-beedrive.md) - [Automated Backup Cloud Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/synology-beestation.md) - [Future-Facing External Storage Drives](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lacie-mobile-drive.md) - [High-Power Personal Cloud Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/icewhale-zimacube.md) - [Centralized Cloud Storage Towers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fxblox.md) - [Private Electronic Storage Tools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/etsme.md)
