Located in one of the most beautiful towns in California, the abode reflects its surroundings with a unique and contemporary design. Using [board-formed concrete](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/concrete-house-1) on the exterior, the design team created a warm and tactile feel that links the guesthouse to the main house. Featuring large openings and an open-plan kitchen, the space flows seamlessly to create a feeling that it is bigger than it truly is. Encouraging an indoor/outdoor lifestyle, the [La Jolla guesthouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/todos-santos) looks out directly onto the pool and beautifully landscaped yard to invite all visitors to come and go freely from the yard to the main house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 82% | Activity: 50% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Minimalist Guesthouses:** Businesses can innovate by offering small, minimalistic guesthouses that create a feeling of spaciousness and offer an indoor/outdoor living experience. - **Board-formed Concrete Design:** Designers and builders may find innovative opportunities by using board-formed concrete to create warm, tactile surfaces that connect the building to its natural surroundings. - **Seamless Indoor/outdoor Spaces:** There is an opportunity for businesses to create more seamless indoor/outdoor living spaces, inviting visitors to move more freely between buildings and outdoor areas. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Real Estate:** Real estate professionals can innovate by incorporating minimalist guesthouses with board-formed concrete design and outdoor living spaces into their properties. - **Architecture:** Architecture professionals may find opportunities to specialize in creating minimalist guesthouses, using board-formed concrete and emphasizing indoor/outdoor living. - **Home Furnishings:** Home furnishings retailers can offer furniture and decor that complements the warm, minimalist design of board-formed concrete guesthouses and provides flexible indoor/outdoor living solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Skylight-Topped English Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/malvern-pool-house.md) - [Unobstructive Hidden Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knox-bhavan.md) - [Bamboo Luxe Pool Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/godai-pavilion.md) - [Glass Philosophical Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glass-ridge.md) - [Wave-Inspired Malibu Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inland-lane-residence.md) - [Asymmetrical Ultra-Compact Pools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/faraway-pool.md) - [Juxtaposing South Californian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emerald-bay.md) - [Nature-Inspired Minimal Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zen-house-1.md) - [Modern Architectural Seaside Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/strandhouse.md)
