# Splotchy Mirrored Illustrations L Filipe dos Santos Creates Abstract Characters By Sophia Pelka | Published 2012-01-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/l-filipe-dos-santos1 References: [behance.net](http://www.behance.net/gallery/See-Saw/56191) & [corcoise.blogspot](http://www.corcoise.blogspot.com/) Portuguese artist L Filipe dos Santos charms viewers with [warm abstracts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow). The artist has an evident wanderlust in terms of sense of identity. Inspired by the famous [Rorschach Ink Blot Test](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-shape-of-play), dos Santos revamped the tell-tale psych test into an aesthetic treat. Done in a [moleskin sketch book](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drawing-series), the drawings are done by the artist dripping three pastel-hued colors between the pages. Upon reopening the book, a bright blotch would strike the artist's imagination. Santos creates sweet figures, seemingly lost in love. The romantic characters rendered from the abstract blotches are done in ball point pen. The abstraction in combination with the everyday materials and concepts makes these pieces stick out. L Filipe dos Santos turns an otherwise daunting psychoanalytical test into a sunny character study. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 81% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Abstract Character Illustrations:** Opportunity to use abstract forms to create unique and captivating characters in various artistic mediums. - **Revamped Psychological Testing:** Potential to reimagine traditional psychological tests in a more visually appealing and engaging way. - **Everyday Material Art:** Innovation in using ordinary materials to create visually striking and thought-provoking artworks. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art:** Innovative artists can explore new methods and mediums, incorporating abstract characters in their creations. - **Psychology:** Innovators in psychology can explore visual-based testing methods that are more visually appealing and accessible to a wider audience. - **Design:** Designers can incorporate everyday materials in their work to create unique and visually captivating designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Artful Custom Mirror Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portraits-collection.md) - [Human Embraced-Inspired Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wallmounted-sculpture.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Surreal Love-Themed Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joakim-ojanen.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md) - [Dynamic Structural Mirror Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zigzag-collection.md) - [3D-Printed Colorful Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olivier-van-herpt-1.md) - [Raunchy Anime-Inspired Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/manuela-soto-sosa.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md)
