# Negative Space Illuminators The K-Ray Lamp Encases its Components Within Framed Voids By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-01-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kray-lamp References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2014/01/29/cray-cray-for-k-ray/) & [eugeniquitllet](http://eugeniquitllet.com/projects/k-ray) It isn't as if there is a strictly conventional form for a [table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/juba-tl1-table-lamp) to take, but the K-Ray Lamp certainly deviates from just about any that you have seen before. You won't observe a separate stand, a lampshade and a light source; instead, each of these elements are merged together in a remarkably modern composition. Eugeni Quitllet's light fixture comprises a subtly irregular [four-sided frame](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/caleide) with tubes and a flaring funnel shape contained within it. These inner features connect and conceal the K-Ray Lamp's electrical cord and its embedded lightbulb. The [abstract illuminating sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tuloa) embodies a fixed form in black or white polycarbonate that makes the angle of its beams inflexible. The object has a formal pride about it that makes it the focus of any room. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 58% | Activity: 13% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Negative Space Illuminators:** A trend towards modern table lamps that merge elements together in a unique yet functional way. - **Abstract Illuminating Sculptures:** A trend towards using lamp fixtures as artistic sculptures that embody a fixed form. - **Innovative Lamp Designs:** A trend towards deviating from conventional forms and experimenting with bold shapes and unique materials. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** A growing industry that can utilize these unique lamp designs to create captivating and functional living spaces. - **Art and Sculpture:** An industry that can integrate the K-Ray Lamp and other abstract lamp fixtures into their artistic displays or sculptures. - **Product Design:** An industry that can incorporate innovative lamp designs like the K-Ray Lamp into their product lines to offer customers unique and functional lighting options. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hollow Candle-Like Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lampe.md) - [Chic Saucer-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-in-tight-light-fixture.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Ethereal Space-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wormhole-table-lamp.md) - [Illusory Multidimensional Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-light.md) - [Lantern-Like Light Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-kyeol-series.md) - [Suspended Halo Light Fixtures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lamplox-minimalist-floor-lamp.md) - [Ultra-Customized Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kala-lamp.md) - [Illusory Mirror Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mirror-table-lamp.md)
