# Radiating Ramp Installations The Koo Jeong-A Glow in the Dark Skate Park is Mesmerizing By Shiori Mine | Published 2012-07-31 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/koo-jeonga-glow-in-the-dark-skate-park References: [hiconsumption](http://hiconsumption.com/2012/07/glow-in-the-dark-skate-park-by-koo-jeong-a/) & [escaut.org](http://www.escaut.org/urban-scale/otro/) The Koo Jeong-A Glow in the Dark Skate Park provides boarders with an eye-catching place to tear it up at night. Conventional skate parks require large-scale lights powered by generators for after hours cruising. Artist Koo Jeong-A sought to create a more environmentally conscious and comprehensive alternative. The track-bending skate park is constructed entirely of [glowing phosphorescent concrete](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/netherlands-pavilion), which emits a distinctive green hue in the dark. The skateable structure, entitled 'OTRO,' resides in the [International Center of Art and Landscape](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/konny) at Vassivière Island. The park is composed of various bowls, cradles and tunnels for skateboarders and BMX bikers to unleash their high-flying tricks on. The Koo Jeong-A Glow in the Dark Skate Park is not only a recreational construction, but an experimental art piece that provides traditional boarders an unreal experience. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 63% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Glow in the Dark Surfaces:** The use of phosphorescent materials in skate parks and other recreational areas provides a unique and visually stunning experience for users. - **Environmentally Conscious Design:** The development of skate parks and other recreational spaces that minimize environmental impact, such as using alternative lighting sources, presents an opportunity for sustainable innovation. - **Blending Art and Recreation:** The integration of artistic elements into skate parks and other recreational spaces allows for creative expression and enhances the overall user experience. ### Where This Applies - **Skate Park Construction:** The skate park construction industry can explore the use of phosphorescent materials and environmentally friendly design practices to create innovative and visually striking recreational spaces. - **Lighting Solutions:** The lighting industry can develop alternative lighting sources that are efficient, sustainable, and suitable for outdoor recreational areas like skate parks. - **Public Art and Design:** The public art and design industry can collaborate with skate park developers to create unique and visually captivating recreational spaces that blend art and athleticism. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Nature-Inspired Rooftop Skateparks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qingdao-mixc-rooftop-skatepark.md) - [Skateable Pyramid Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/playlab.md) - [Glow-in-the-Dark Sushi Bars](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glow-in-the-dark-sushi-bar.md) - [Eye-Catching Basketball Parks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basketball-park.md) - [Futuristic Glowing Playgrounds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joya-1.md) - [Dynamic Skateable Architecture Stores](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vans-west-end.md) - [Immersive Skating Events](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gogh-skate.md) - [Skateboarding-Inspired Wood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-green-works.md) - [Colorful Municipal Recreational Facilities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-sports-park.md)
