To mark the 125th year since [Kodak](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/prinics) was first founded and introduced the world’s first consumer camera—the Kodak No. 1—a series of photographs have been uploaded that document the everyday lives of people who lived in 1888.

In what was the first point and shoot camera that was advertized with the slogan, “You Press the Button, We Do the Rest,” the Kodak No. 1 came preloaded with 100 exposures, and cost about $25, or around $600 if adjusted for current values.

In the series, uploaded to the [National Media Museum](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/National-AI-ecosystems), people from different walks of life are seen playing in lakes, reading a book, rowing a boat and resting. The monochromatic, retro feel of the photographs, while seemingly ordinary, is a timely reminder of how far cameras have come, given how ubiquitous they are now on our phones and with our portable DSLR cameras.
