Knitted Lamps by Meike Harde Takes on Traditional Shapes

In spite of their traditional shape, the Knitted Lamps by Meike Harde, a design studio based in Saarbrücken, Germany, are hard not to take a second glance at. It is immediately apparent that something is very different about these designs. In place of more common materials such as plastic and porcelain, the light fixtures are made out of stretchy polyester-yarn, hence its name.

Creating a light and airy aesthetic, the Knitted Lamps by Meike Harde has, as Trendir so aptly puts it, a 'touch me/feel me' appeal that few will be able to resist. What makes the designs particularly special is the fact that the entire fixture is knitted. Not to mention that the thin knitted surface is transparent, which gives it an interesting layering effect against the rest of its surroundings.
