# Asymmetrically Folded Ledges The Knick Shelf by DING3000 Embraces Intrigue with a Simple Crease By Amelia Roblin | Published 2011-11-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/knick-shelf-by-ding3000 References: [industrialdesignserved](http://www.industrialdesignserved.com/gallery/KNICK-SHELF/1345717) & [pulpoproducts](http://pulpoproducts.com/products/show_product/22) The [floating shelf](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/velto) is an appealing piece of wall-mounted storage, popular because of its clean line and apparent absence of underpinning hardware. The Knick Shelf by DING3000 explores this use of a single piece of material to construct a [self-supporting ledge](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/qurv), attractive to those who appreciate the former but desire more of a visual impact. Designed for Pulpo, this storage system is made from a narrow sheet of [powder coated steel](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/twist-side-table), manipulated quite simply with a sharp 90-degree fold of one corner. The resulting form creates a buttress suitable for placement against a wall which affords the convenient placement of supportive screws. When mounted at eye-level, the thin ledge of the Knick Shelf by DING3000 is nearly invisible. It's the asymmetrical triangular brace that adds a chic element of contemporary visual interest. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.6/10 - Popularity: 23% | Activity: 17% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Asymmetrically Folded Design:** The use of asymmetrical folded design in home decor can enhance contemporary visual interest. - **Single-piece Storage:** The trend of single-piece storage systems, like the Knick Shelf, are becoming popular due to their clean and simple lines. - **Powder-coated Steel:** The use of powder-coated steel in minimalist designs like the Knick Shelf are in trend due to its durability and clean finish. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** In the interior design industry, there is a growing demand for visually interesting yet minimalistic storage solutions like the Knick Shelf. - **Furniture:** Furniture companies can incorporate asymmetrical folded design in their products to provide a modern aesthetic appeal for contemporary homeowners. - **Metalworking:** Companies in metalworking industry can focus on using powder-coated steel to make products that have a high demand in the interior design and furniture industries. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Discreet Folding Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folding-shelf.md) - [Folding Steel Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pli-steel-wall-shelf.md) - [L-Shaped Stacked Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/loft-shelf.md) - [Clock-Accented Shelf Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/omega-shelf.md) - [Mounted Colorful Shelving Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledge-shelf.md) - [Dynamic Storage-Display Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shelf-life.md) - [Progressive Storage Shelving Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-prt-collection.md) - [Customizable Style-Conscious Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ledoux-modular-shelf-system.md) - [Modular Grid-Style Shelving](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bend-shelf-by-spenser-atlas.md)
