British photographer Tom Robinson captured these phenomenal photos of the event for [Gujarat Tourism](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/state-of-Gujarat). The annual festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of summer. It also commemorates the approach of harvest season, a crucial time of year for farmers. The photos capture India's famous kite battles -- here, kite strings are coated with dyes, egg whites and crushed glass, allowing participants to swoop in and cut the strings of other kites. The Uttarayan Kite Festival also welcomes people from outside India who come to showcase their gorgeous kites, some of which are massive and require teams of people to get going. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.8/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 6% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Travel](https://www.trendhunter.com/travel) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **International Kite Festivals:** International festivals that showcase kite flying traditions provide an opportunity for developing tourism and cultural exchange. - **Innovative Kite Design:** The development of new materials and designs for kites can lead to innovations in outdoor recreation equipment and artistic expression. - **Kite Battle Competitions:** Kite battle competitions create a market for new tools and techniques for kite fighting while promoting competition and spectator excitement. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Tourism:** Promoting kite festivals as tourist destinations creates opportunities for local economies to diversify and grow. - **Outdoor Recreation:** Innovations in kite design can be applied to other forms of outdoor recreation equipment, such as camping and hiking gear. - **Sports Equipment:** Kite fighting competitions offer opportunities for developing new tools and equipment for athletes while also promoting the sport to a wider audience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Inaugural Paper Lantern Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-lantern-festival.md) - [Elaborate Winter Activities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-city-of-harbin.md) - [Dragon-Themed Drone Light Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/legend-of-the-dragon-gate.md) - [Drone-Created Gingerbread Light Shows](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gingerbread-village-in-the-sky.md) - [Immersive Light Festivals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lektrik-festival-of-lights.md) - [Vibrant City Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/craig-karl2.md) - [Festive Light Painting Techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-painting-1.md) - [Geometric Outdoor Decor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/colored-glass-wind-chime.md) - [Sun-Lit Kite-Inspired Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cygnet-light.md)
