# Compacting Garbage Cans The 'Trash Krusher' Kitchen Trash Can Compacts Garbage to Half its Size By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2016-03-08 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitchen-trash-can References: [thegreenhead](http://www.thegreenhead.com/2016/03/trash-krusher-trash-can-with-built-in-manual-trash-compactor.php) & [frontgate](http://www.frontgate.com/stainless-steel-manual-trash-compactor/kitchen-entertaining/kitchen-storage-maintenance/543613) The kitchen trash can in many homes needs emptying almost daily, so the 'Trash Krusher' is designed to help reduce the prevalence of this task. A traditional trash can on the exterior, the 'Trash Krusher' works like a traditional [stainless steel trash bin](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smartsort). However, the unit sets itself apart by featuring a compacting handle on the top portion that can be compressed when the garbage has reaches the top. A large portion of the space in a filled garbage bag is occupied by empty space. As such, the 'Trash Krusher' kitchen trash can helps to eliminate this and offer more space per garbage bag for maximum efficiency. The 'Trash Krusher' could also work well as a [recycling bin for crushing small boxes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/roomba-205-dustcompactor-combo-robot). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 55% | Activity: 32% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Compact Trash Cans:** The 'Trash Krusher' introduces the trend of compacting garbage cans, reducing the need for frequent emptying. - **Efficient Waste Management:** The 'Trash Krusher' highlights the trend of maximizing space in garbage bags for more efficient waste disposal. - **Multifunctional Recycling Bins:** The 'Trash Krusher' demonstrates the trend of using recycling bins for crushing small boxes, promoting recycling and reducing waste volume. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Home Goods:** The compact trash can trend creates opportunities for innovation in the home goods industry by offering more efficient waste management solutions. - **Waste Management:** Efficient waste management trends like compact trash cans open up disruptive innovation opportunities in the waste management industry. - **Recycling:** The multifunctional recycling capabilities of the 'Trash Krusher' present disruptive innovation opportunities in the recycling industry by optimizing waste volume and promoting recycling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Chic Utilitarian Trash Cans](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/carden-the-twin.md) - [Recycling Home-Use Compactor](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clear-drop-1.md) - [Odor-Busting Waste Composters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/waste-composter.md) - [Electric Food Recyclers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foodcycler-eco-3.md) - [Odorless Compost Kitchen Bins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mill-kitchen-bin.md) - [Modular Organization Garbage Bins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kitchen-garbage-bins.md) - [Tipping Trash Can Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/niko-trash-bin.md) - [Powerful Can-Crushing Units](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/can-crusher.md) - [Modular Trash Organization Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sortmate-trash-cans.md)
