[University of Virginia](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fingertrak) computer scientists John Stankovic and Shahriar Nirjon developed the system that runs off of a series of interconnected [Microsoft](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/xar) [Kinnect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kinnect) cameras. Since the cameras utilize depth-sensing technology, they can monitor items that have changed locations in a home. Each camera records motion throughout the home and then cross-references objects that have moved with a database that details what items exist in the home and where they should be -- thus helping you find misplaced items and monitor other activity taking place in your house. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 0.7/10 - Popularity: 1% | Activity: 12% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Gadgets](https://www.trendhunter.com/gadgets) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Depth-sensing Technology:** Innovative system that uses depth-sensing cameras to monitor home activity opens doors to security systems and smart home integrations. - **Object Tracking:** AI-powered object tracking using interconnected cameras provides opportunities for retail stores and warehouses to improve inventory management and optimize store layouts. - **Cross-referencing Data:** Cross-referencing and analyzing data captured by interconnected cameras has potential in healthcare, particularly in monitoring patients' daily activities. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Security:** The Kinsight system's depth-sensing technology can revolutionize home security solutions, providing reliable monitoring and alerts for suspicious activity. - **Retail and Warehousing:** The object tracking technology used in the Kinsight system can help businesses in retail and warehousing accurately track inventory in real-time. - **Healthcare:** The cross-referencing capabilities of the Kinsight system can also benefit the healthcare industry by monitoring patients' daily activities and improving overall care management. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [High-Tech Residential Security Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-security-system.md) - [AI-Powered Camera Alarm Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/camera-alarm-systems.md) - [Pocket-Sized Safety Locks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gaze.md) - [Camera-Equipped Door Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plus-link-z-concept.md) - [Visual AI Home Platforms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seemour.md) - [Smart Home Security Systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-home-security-solution.md) - [Full-Body Motion-Tracking Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/refract-technologies.md) - [Movement-Analyzing Security Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ola-2-security-camera.md) - [Fall-Detecting Devices](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kami-fall-detect-camera.md)
