# Origami-Inspired Chess Sets The Degrees of Freedom Kinetic Chess Set Unfolds to Reveal Storage By Michael Hemsworth | Published 2020-06-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kinetic-chess-set References: [homecrux](https://www.homecrux.com/unfolding-wooden-chess-board/142705/) & [instagram](https://www.instagram.com/degreesoffreedomco/) The Degrees of Freedom Kinetic chess set is an [origami-inspired game](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/another-kingdom) that has been created by technical engineer Brian Ignaut as a shapeshifting version of the namesake board game that offers a design-conscious aesthetic. The board game is characterized by its folding design that is achieved thanks to a mechanism attached to the sides that enables the play section to reveal storage space for the pieces below. This makes the game an all-in-one unit that can be brought and played almost anywhere to accommodate impromptu games at home or out of the house. The Degrees of Freedom Kinetic chess set is crafted using high-quality components to make it suited for long-term use or even to be left out as a [decor item](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kish-o-mat).
