# Serene Isolated Landscapes Kim Holtermand Calms the Soul With Empty Environments By Jason Soy | Published 2011-05-26 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kim-holtermand References: [inspirefirst](http://www.inspirefirst.com/2011/05/25/architecture-landscape-photography-kim-hltermand/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed:) & [holtermand.dk](http://holtermand.dk/) Believe it or not, the world wasn't always bustling with human activity, and these landscape pictorials by Kim Holtermand capture that experience through depictions of [isolated environments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-hkarn). The most startling aspect of these Kim Holtermand pictorials is its utter emptiness, with its plain gray skies and waters. Looking at these eerie images, they almost seem computer-generated in their serenity. Kim Holtermand also has the amazing knack for photographing these surreal locales during [foggy weather](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/slow-tv-series), adding a layer of tranquility and creepy ambiance that is hard to capture in urban landscapes. My favorite pieces however, have got to be Holtermand's [photographs of islands](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pasparakisfriel). Found in calm waters, these islands are so peaceful and undisturbed that they are barely even recognizable as islands, resembling more so rocks and pebbles found in puddles. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.5/10 - Popularity: 72% | Activity: 55% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Empty Environments:** Opportunity to create minimalist and calming products and services that cater to individuals seeking solace in serene, isolated landscapes. - **Surreal Locales:** Potential for virtual reality experiences that transport users to eerie and tranquil settings, offering a unique sense of escapism. - **Island Photography:** Opportunity to market prints and merchandise featuring serene island landscapes, capturing the beauty and tranquility of undisturbed places. ### Where This Applies - **Photography:** An innovative approach to capturing landscapes can disrupt the photography industry by appealing to individuals seeking tranquility and emptiness in their images. - **Virtual Reality:** The creation of virtual reality experiences within surreal locales can disrupt the entertainment industry by providing users with immersive and calming environments. - **Home Decor:** Minimalist and tranquil designs inspired by empty and serene landscapes can disrupt the home decor industry by offering products that promote a sense of calm and tranquility. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Tranquil Contemporary Cabin Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hyatta.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Photography Project Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Collaborative Sculptural Art Sets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neojomon-biomorphic-fantme.md) - [Expansive Nature Recording Catalogues](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/inner-vision-pro.md) - [Paper Curvature Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paper-curves.md)
