# Tiny Portrait Paintings The Artwork of Kim Dong Yoo Takes Great Time and Patience to Create By Harris Jay Rosenberg Alterman | Published 2012-03-19 | Pop Culture Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kim-dong-yoo References: [odditycentral](http://www.odditycentral.com/pics/mind-boggling-hand-painted-portraits-made-of-hundreds-of-smaller-portraits.html) & [galerie-braunbehrens.de](http://www.galerie-braunbehrens.de/en/artists/kim-dong-yoo.html) These celebrity portraits by Kim Dong Yoo are each made up of thousands of smaller portraits. The paintings are made completely by hand, which means Yoo must paint each individual little portrait until they form a bigger picture. When viewed from far away one sees iconic faces such as John F. Kennedy or Michael Jackson; however, when one moves in closer, thousands of tiny faces begin to appear. Yoo sometimes makes the smaller portraits the same face as the larger one, but sometimes the smaller face is a different person. For example, one will see an image of Albert Einstein but closer up it will look like thousands of pictures of Marilyn Monroe. The artwork of Kim Dong Yoo will be on display at the Hasted Kraeuleter Art Gallery in New York City until March 24, 2012. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 51% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Pop Culture](https://www.trendhunter.com/popculture) > [Celebs](https://www.trendhunter.com/celebs) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Tiny Portrait Paintings:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Explore the use of advanced technology, such as 3D printing, to create tiny portrait paintings in a more efficient and precise manner. - **Hyperrealistic Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop AI-powered tools or software that can automatically create hyperrealistic art by analyzing and replicating the techniques used by artists like Kim Dong Yoo. - **Interactive Art Experiences:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Combine augmented reality (AR) and interactive technologies to provide viewers with a unique and immersive experience when interacting with artworks like those of Kim Dong Yoo. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art Galleries:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Incorporate digital displays or projection mapping technologies in art galleries to enhance the presentation of intricate artworks like those by Kim Dong Yoo. - **Printing and Reproduction Services:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Develop specialized printing and reproduction services that can accurately reproduce tiny portrait paintings and hyperrealistic art with high fidelity and detail. - **Art Education and Workshops:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Integrate virtual reality (VR) or online platforms to offer remote art education programs and workshops focused on techniques used in creating hyperrealistic and interactive artworks. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Human Duality-Themed Abstract Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/passive-aggression.md) - [Television-Showcased Abstract Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lg-oled-lounge.md) - [Paper-Made Mosaic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/real-life-architecture-exhibition.md) - [Limited Miniature Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-paintings.md) - [Stunning Origami Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/origami-portaits.md) - [Pop Art-Style Blocked Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-in-red.md) - [Reimagined Puzzled Artful Paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/portrait-of-a-woman-in-a-hat.md) - [Sculptural Gallery Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kennedy-yanko.md) - [Glass Beaded Intricate Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition.md)
