The update turned what was once an old building with a disorienting floor plan into a contemporary family home. Visitors enter the home through a double-height entrance that leads them into the main living space. The room is bordered by [sliding glazing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tranquil-abiding), offering beautiful views of the surrounding garden. Inside, the [central staircase](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cobalt-coach-house) separates the kitchen, dining and living areas, while also acting as a focal point. The staircase is enclosed by steel wires, which hang suspended around it, partially forming the handrail. It is complemented by [Foscarini's](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foscarini-lava-lamps) Gregg pendant lights, which are scattered throughout, adding a lightness to the spacious area. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.2/10 - Popularity: 93% | Activity: 54% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Contemporary Architecture:** The use of contemporary design in the renovation presents opportunities to utilize innovative materials and building methods. - **Open Plan Living:** The emphasis on open plan living spaces provides opportunities for businesses specializing in creative partitioning solutions and multifunctional furniture designs. - **Sustainable Design:** The incorporation of sustainable design principles in the renovation allows for businesses to focus on developing and promoting eco-friendly materials and construction practices. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Architects and builders can incorporate innovative materials and techniques in creating modern, energy-efficient homes. - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can create multifunctional pieces that adapt to different open-plan living spaces, promoting a sustainable living environment. - **Sustainable Construction:** Construction companies can focus on developing and utilizing eco-friendly materials, creating sustainable homes that are energy-efficient and environmentally responsible. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Hillside Family Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sky-house-1.md) - [Reconfigured Spacious Brooklyn Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/z-house.md) - [Memory-Engrained Airy Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-of-lightness.md) - [Reimagined Edwardian Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gunter-and-co.md) - [Bold Architectural Renovations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flat-iron-house.md) - [Natural Light-Centric Timber Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/huron-house.md) - [Mid-Century Home Modern Extensions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seventies-house.md) - [Curved Brick Entertaining Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sobremesa-house.md) - [Renewed Heritage Estates](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kilmory-house.md)
