# Cycling Workspaces The Kickstand Desk Keeps Workers Constantly Moving By Meghan Young | Published 2011-11-10 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kickstand-desk References: [psfk](http://www.psfk.com/2011/11/kickstand-desk-enables-cyclists-ride-their-bikes-while-at-work.html) & [kickstandfurniture](http://www.kickstandfurniture.com/) There are [standing desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/little-bean-standing-desk), there are even [treadmill desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/office-walker), but the Kickstand Desk is one of the first workspaces that incorporates a bicycle to encourage staying active during typical sedentary times. Interestingly enough, the Kickstand Desk doesn't actually sport a built-in bike. The standard desk's dimensions have simply been tweaked so that the user's own bike can fit beneath it comfortably. Conceived by Dan Young, who as a result founded Kickstand Furniture, the Kickstand Desk is manufactured in Cleveland. According to Young, "The real mission was to build a line of furniture geared toward the avid cycler. I love bicycles and if I had my way I’d be riding them every day. Now I can." Mission achieved. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 45% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Cycling Workspaces:** The Kickstand Desk combines workspace and exercise, paving the way for more active work environments. - **Bike-friendly Furniture:** Kickstand Furniture's innovative design allows cyclists to seamlessly integrate their bicycles into their workstations, promoting a healthier lifestyle. - **Active Productivity:** The Kickstand Desk sets the stage for a new wave of workspaces that prioritize physical activity and mental focus for increased productivity. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture Manufacturing:** Furniture manufacturers have the opportunity to tap into the growing demand for innovative and health-conscious workspaces, such as the Kickstand Desk. - **Fitness and Wellness:** The fitness and wellness industry can explore partnerships with furniture companies to create products that merge exercise and productivity, like the Kickstand Desk. - **Office Equipment and Supplies:** Companies in the office equipment and supplies industry can develop and market accessories specifically designed for incorporating bicycles into workspaces, inspired by the Kickstand Desk. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Workstation-Equipped Electric Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/buck-bike.md) - [Indoor Cyclist Furniture Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tons-tech-table-and-stands.md) - [Power-Generating Desk Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lifespan-ampera.md) - [Standing Desk Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/standing-desk-workstations.md) - [Motorized Cable-Hiding Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/steno-sitandstand-work-desk.md) - [Multifunctional Standing Work Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/boundary-desk-1.md) - [Dual-Section Standing Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dual-lift-desk.md) - [Productivity-Supporting Exercise Bikes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/acer-ekinekt-bd-3.md) - [Adjustable Ergonomic Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/croft-sitstand.md)
