Each artwork is created entirely out of [discarded computer keyboard buttons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/basket-sculptures). Vargas used thousands of keys to construct maps, globes, skulls and bombs in this series called 'E-Waste.' By utilizing a material that is used daily but is often overlooked, it creates a thought-provoking display of how society is so technologically connected. The bland color of the keys add to the overall [nostalgic feeling](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-to-basics-ii) of the artwork. Each color represents a different model of computer that was once new and exciting but is now outdated and useless. The keyboard art is a representation of society's continuous progression and technological advancement. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 62% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Art:** Creating art from discarded material that is sustainable and promotes environmental awareness. - **Upcycling:** Repurposing discarded materials to create artistic and functional pieces. - **Technology Nostalgia:** Reviving old technologies through artistic expression. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** The art industry can leverage sustainable and eco-friendly materials to create unique pieces that promote environmental awareness. - **Recycling:** The recycling industry can upcycle discarded materials, such as computer keyboard keys, to create functional and artistic pieces. - **Technology:** The technology industry can inspire innovation by revisiting old technologies and creating nostalgia through artistic expression. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sustainable Hand-Crafted Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/working-synth.md) - [All-Metal Mechanical Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metal-keycaps.md) - [NYC Skyscraper-Inspired Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/icebreaker-keyboard.md) - [Vintage Icon-Themed Accessories](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/susan-kare.md) - [Sci-Fi Film-Inspired Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drop-expression-series-mechtropolis-keyboard.md) - [Modular Hexagonal Cap Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kbird-spec-project.md) - [Experimental Custom-Designed Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/edglrd-x-higround.md) - [Slim Brutalist Functional Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cleaver.md) - [NYC-Inspired Mechanical Keyboards](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-icebreaker.md)
