His series of antique calculator portraits fascinates viewers and exhibits a great amount of detail. While modern calculators are often found on one's smartphone, the mathematical devices of our past were a lot more complex. Kevin Twomey's antique calculator photo series is appropriately titled "Calculators" and features an intricate study of the devices' inner-workings. The photographer's interest in a calculator's internal parts and mechanisms is highlighted in his latest series, resulting in imagery that resembles something out of a sci-fi film. Machines that resemble space-ships or large-scaled electrical devices are revealed to be disassembled calculators. Ultimately, these portraits prove that calculators are strangely fascinating when taken apart and examined. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.2/10 - Popularity: 57% | Activity: 30% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Antique Calculators:** Exploring the intricate inner-workings of antique calculators presents an opportunity for businesses to innovate in the preservation and modernization of old technologies. - **Internal Mechanisms:** As seen in Kevin Twomey's photo series, a focus on the fascinating internal mechanisms of outdated technologies could inspire companies to develop new, innovative products and designs. - **Archival Photography:** The trend towards creating captivating works of art from outdated technologies, as seen in Kevin Twomey's photo series, presents an opportunity to explore nostalgic and historical themes through archival photography. ### Who This Affects Most - **Photography:** There is an opportunity for photographers and photography businesses to preserve and transform outdated technologies into captivating works of art through techniques like those seen in Kevin Twomey's photo series. - **Technology:** Exploring the inner-workings of outdated technologies through artistic representation may inspire innovative ideas for technology companies interested in preserving and modernizing old technologies. - **Antiques:** The preservation and display of antique technologies, like Kevin Twomey's photo series featuring antique calculators, presents an opportunity for antiques dealers and collectors to capitalize on nostalgic and historical themes while still providing a unique and modern appeal. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Calculator Software Projects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calculator-drawer.md) - [Analog Nostalgia Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/back-to-basics-ii.md) - [AI-Generated Poetic Photo Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emilio-alarcn.md) - [Translucent Pocket Cameras](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clearcam.md) - [Slick Design-Forward Calculator Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/design-calculators.md) - [AI-Generated Retrofuturistic Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrofuturistic-objects.md) - [Repurposed Vintage Apple Computers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/repurposed-vintage-apple-computers.md) - [Stationery-Friendly Calculators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-calculator.md) - [Photography Project Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/still-life-1.md)
