# House-Shaped Lounge Bed The Kettal Cottage Provides Privacy and Shelter for Relaxing Outdoors By Meghan Young | Published 2012-09-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kettal-cottage References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/outdoor-lounger-bed-by-patricia-urquiola) & [patriciaurquiola](http://www.patriciaurquiola.com/) At first glance, someone may mistake the [Kettal Cottage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insula-sofa) for either a very small hut or a luxurious tent. They wouldn't be too far off, except for the fact that it is more of a [sheltered lounge bed](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-introvert-chair). Instead of providing cramped quarters or portability, it offers a romantic and private way to relax outdoors. Created by Milan-based designer Patricia Urquiola for the Spanish company Kettal, the Kettal Cottage is a modern, house-shaped retreat that will put people at ease just looking at it. Beneath the slanted roof lies a [chaise-style seating built for two](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/calma-lounge). By the looks of the images, people can personalize the Kettal Cottage by choosing what fabrics and finishes suit them and their home best. Nevertheless, the wooden frame will complement many spaces. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.2/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Outdoor Relaxation:** The Kettal Cottage provides a private and luxurious outdoor relaxation experience. - **Personalized Outdoor Furniture:** The ability to customize fabrics and finishes opens up opportunities for personalized outdoor furniture design. - **Unique Outdoor Structures:** The Kettal Cottage represents a trend of unique outdoor structures for relaxation and shelter. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Outdoor Furniture:** The Kettal Cottage is an innovative addition to the outdoor furniture industry, offering a unique and luxurious outdoor relaxation experience. - **Home Decor:** The ability to personalize the Kettal Cottage with different fabrics and finishes provides opportunities for disruption within the home decor industry. - **Landscape Architecture:** The Kettal Cottage represents a trend towards unique and creative outdoor structures in landscape architecture and urban design. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Elegant Exterior Lounge Beds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lounge-bed.md) - [Ultra-Simple Unibody Dog Houses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cottage-dog-house.md) - [Beachside Modern Daybed Setups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/contour-daybed.md) - [Modern Cushioned Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pod-outdoor-seating.md) - [Arab Hospotality-Inspired Modular Sofas](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insula-sofa.md) - [Shaded Modern Outdoor Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ufo-shelter.md) - [Intimate High-Altitude Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/altihut.md) - [Farmland-Inspired Rural Hotel Cottages](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ningshan-luzhai-cottages.md) - [Stylishly Modern Daybeds](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-daybed.md)
