As of late, Wong seems to be preoccupied with painting [aquatic creatures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mini-sculptures) and often pairs fish -- goldfish in particular -- with human subjects. He incorporates these bulbous-eyed creatures with little regard to real-world physics and conditions as they’re normally depicted floating around in the air. One odd image even pairs goldfishes with a pear, attaching the animate creatures via umbilical cords to the inanimate fruit. Ken Wong currently works as a [digital artist](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-digital-artwork), designer and art director residing in Australia. His ideas and images have been featured in video games and art books. On occasion, he’s even led workshops giving advice to up-and-coming illustrators on how they can better their craft. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.4/10 - Popularity: 73% | Activity: 22% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Surreal Illustrations:** Opportunity for artists to create dream-like and visually captivating artwork. - **Aquatic Motifs:** Potential for incorporating sea life elements into various art forms. - **Disruptive Concepts:** Exploration of unconventional ideas and pushing the boundaries of imagination in art. ### Where This Applies - **Digital Art:** Disruption opportunity in creating surreal digital art pieces using innovative techniques. - **Gaming:** Opportunity to incorporate surreal aquatic motifs into video games for a unique gaming experience. - **Illustration:** Potential for illustrators to experiment with incorporating surreal and aquatic elements into their work for distinctive visual storytelling. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Illusion-Inspired Design Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection.md) - [Fluid Function Art Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow.md) - [Weather-Inspired Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/weatherinspired-art-exhibition.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Creature-Inspired Home Good Lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/charles-jeffreys-loverboy.md)
