# Giant Horse Head Sculptures Kelpies by Andy Scott Pays Tribute to the Heritage of Scotland By Meghan Young | Published 2013-11-13 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kelpies-by-andy-scott References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/11/giant-kelpies-horse-head-sculptures-tower-over-the-forth-clyde-canal-in-scotland/) & [scottsculptures](http://www.scottsculptures.co.uk/) Kelpies by Andy Scott, a public artist based in Glasgow, Scotland, is a breathtaking pair of sculptures that look as though they belong in the world of 'Lord of the Rings' or some other fantastical setting. They take on the shape of two horses' heads, one peering down reflectively, the other reining upwards with enthusiasm. Beautiful to behold, the sculptures are an amazing feat. Overlooking the Forth & Clyde canal in Falkirk, Scotland, Kelpies by Andy Scott is nearing completion after seven long years. Their 30 meters tall frames are meant to be a tribute to the horse-powered heritage of Scotland. According to Wikipedia, "The Kelpies name reflected the mythological transforming beasts possessing the strength and endurance of 10 horses; a quality that is analogous with the transformational change and endurance of Scotland’s inland waterways." ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 50% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Giant Horse Head Sculptures:** Creating large-scale sculptures that capture the imagination and create a sense of wonder. - **Fantastical Art Installations:** Designing immersive installations that transport viewers to otherworldly realms. - **Heritage-inspired Public Art:** Exploring historical and cultural themes through large-scale public art projects. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Tourism and Destination Marketing:** Leveraging large-scale sculptures and art installations to attract visitors to cities and regions. - **Outdoor Recreation and Attractions:** Creating unique and visually-striking landmarks that enhance the outdoor recreation experience for tourists and locals. - **Urban Development and Redevelopment:** Integrating public art and sculptures into urban landscapes to enhance the visual appeal and cultural identity of cities. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md) - [Folk Creature Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fibredog.md) - [Future-Facing Sculptural Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eye-of-the-future.md) - [Primal-Themed Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-return.md) - [Artful Bronze Horse Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/deborah-butterfield-1.md) - [Interactive Kinetic Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/interactive-kinetic-sculptures.md) - [UK-Based Modern Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/relics-in-the-landscape.md) - [Horse-Inspired Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-falabella-stool.md) - [Sculptural Whiskey Bottle Cases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kengo-kuma-1.md)
