# Stone-Embedded Seats Kefa Bench Combines Natural Materials for an Artificially Organic Composition By Amelia Roblin | Published 2014-02-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kefa-bench References: [alessandromarelli.it](http://www.alessandromarelli.it/progetti/kefa.html) The concept and the superior craftsmanship behind the Kefa Bench identify it as a contemporary piece of design; however, the ideas from which this stool grew are rooted in the earliest forms of architecture. Alessandro Marelli's chair channels the rudimentary building materials that were resourcefully and industriously assembled to create shelters and sanctuaries before more sophisticated techniques of stone construction were developed. To make this thoughtful item, the designer cut a large segment of a tree trunk, forming it to take a trapezoidal section. A hefty fragment of rock was then sculpted to accommodate the slotting in of the broad wooden beam. In the Kefa Bench, the geological foundation provides weight and stability for the much softer timber surface. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.7/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 44% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Natural-material Combinations:** Exploring natural materials such as wood and stone to create unique and contemporary designs. - **Rustic Design:** Crafting furniture using rudimentary materials and techniques to create a stunning and unique piece. - **Sculpted Furniture:** Incorporating sculpted or carved materials such as stone into furniture designs for an original and unexpected twist. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for designers to create original furniture designs using natural materials and sculpted pieces. - **Home Decor:** Market for home decor items that incorporate natural materials and rustic design techniques. - **Architecture and Construction:** Incorporating designs and techniques from early architecture and construction methods into modern structures to add an organic element. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Handcrafted Stone Stools](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebble-stool.md) - [Dual Sculpture Seating Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/immaterial-0001.md) - [Heirloom Furniture Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/columns.md) - [Sustainable Paper-Infused Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/detalji-bench.md) - [Threshold Bench Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/torii.md) - [Tree-Intertwined Metal Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tenir-bench.md) - [Recycled Resin Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-cresta.md) - [Stone Vein-Inspired Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ana-chair.md) - [Elegantly Airy Outdoor Benches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-bench.md)
