# Curved Tube Lamps The Kawari Crane Lamp is Inspired by Ancient Japanese Helmets By Joey Haar | Published 2017-12-19 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kawari-crane-lamp References: [dezeen](https://www.dezeen.com/2017/12/18/curved-glass-tubes-form-kawari-crane-lamp-bec-brittain-design-miami/) The Kawari Crane lamp takes inspiration from sources as disparate as the neon lights of Las Vegas and the shape of ancient Japanese war helmets. Presented at this year's Design Miami festival, the lamp features molded fluorescent tubes mounted on top of a heavy brass base to create an intriguing and changeable sculpture. The "kawari" of Kawari Crane comes from the name for the ornate helmets worn by Japanese samurai warriors throughout the nation's history — a key visual influence behind the lamp. The Kawari Crane is one of seven lamps that make up the Crane series by designer Bec Brittain, each of which uses bronze and glass to tell a different story from a unique point of influence. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.8/10 - Popularity: 56% | Activity: 19% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Curved Tube Design:** Incorporating molded fluorescent tubes into designs for art, furniture, and lighting installations. - **Cultural Fusion:** Blending motifs from different cultural sources to create unique and visually striking designs. - **Interactive Sculptures:** Creating changeable and flexible sculptures, including lighting installations that can be reconfigured for different spaces and moods. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Lighting Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Create lighting designs using curved tube technology and playful, thematic inspiration that create ambiance as well as light. - **Furniture Design:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Experiment with curved tube technology to create abstract designs that can function as sculpture, art installation, and furniture. - **Home Decor:** Disruptive innovation opportunity: Design home decor objects like vases, wall art, and plant hangers using curved tube technology that bring an edgy, futuristic, and organic aesthetic to domestic spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Japanese Lantern-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/madco.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Experimental Ancestral Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kawabi.md) - [Whimsical Bird-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tiki-lamp.md) - [Kimono-Inspired Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/haori-light.md) - [Pasta-Inspired Curvaceous Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic-lamp.md) - [Traditional Tower-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-pagoda-lamp.md) - [Bamboo-Inspired Glass Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-forest-glss.md) - [Stainless Steel Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-table-lamp.md)
