# Modern Sloping Temples A Buddhist Retreat by Katsuhiro Miyamoto and Associates By Marissa Liu | Published 2010-06-09 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/katsuhiro-miyamoto References: [archdaily](http://www.archdaily.com/63290/chushin-ji-katsuhiro-miyamoto-associates/) Located in Nagano, Japan, this sloped-roof space by Katsuhiro Miyamoto & Associates is built to withstand the area's heavy snowfalls. The thick concrete roof is also built to last 100 to 200 years. The interior of the [mixed wood and concrete home](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nakano-house) is [minimalistic but spacious](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residential-project-in-tokyo). The home is actually a priest's quarters at the [Buddhist temple](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plum-village-buddhist) of Chushin-ji and will be used for events like lectures, concerts and exhibitions. **Implications** - Leave it to a priest to have a totally monumental abode like this one. I only wish that all housing could be built to last 100 to 200 years -- talk about an investment! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 21% | Activity: 11% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Sustainable Architecture:** The use of durable materials and sustainable design practices in architecture to create long-lasting structures. - **Minimalistic Design:** The trend of utilizing minimalist aesthetics and open spaces in interior design for a clean and spacious look. - **Multi-purpose Spaces:** The design and use of spaces that serve multiple functions, such as the priest's quarters used for events in this Buddhist retreat. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Architecture:** Opportunity for architects and designers to incorporate sustainable and durable materials in their projects, ensuring longevity and eco-friendliness. - **Interior Design:** Opportunity to cater to the demand for minimalist design by creating simple and open spaces that promote a sense of calm and spaciousness. - **Events and Exhibition:** Opportunity for event organizers and exhibition planners to utilize multi-purpose spaces that can accommodate a variety of activities and gatherings. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Pyramidal Concrete Japanese Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pyramid-hut.md) - [Temple-Inspired Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/j-kidman-architecture.md) - [Temple-Inspired Idyllic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/k-residence-1.md) - [Modern Multi-Purpose Japanese Buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/muiltipurpose-japanese-building.md) - [Flood-Mitigating Wooden Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ushijima-architects.md) - [Minimal Timber Retreats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/zenhouse.md) - [Landmark-Based Buddhist Temples](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/uppercloister.md) - [Minimal Japanese Home Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/house-in-kyobate.md) - [Mandala-Shaped Meditation Halls](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mahamudra-meditation-centre.md)
