Kangaroo meat is a kind of sought-after exotic game meat but Australian food tech company VOW developed the first slaughter-free cultured kangaroo meat made with real animal cells. While many companies are now developing lab-grown chicken, fish and beef, VOW anticipates that its lab-grown kangaroo meat will be available for purchase within the next three years. Notably, the government of Australia has given the company a $25,000 grant to pursue its project.

By collecting natural stem cells from biopsy samples of a live animal, VOW creates the environment for the cells to thrive and form into muscle and fat cells, and connective tissue. Altogether, the finished product yields a result that's biologically identical to meat yet offers a cruelty-free way to meet the demand for meat.
