# Mod Gridded Mobiles The Kanavos Smartphone Uses a Windows Format for an Apple Operating System By Amelia Roblin | Published 2012-10-14 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kanavos-smartphone References: [yankodesign](http://www.yankodesign.com/2012/09/18/smart-pants-kanavos/) & [ale.gr](http://www.ale.gr/) It seems that many [touchscreen handsets](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-phone-concept) have been conforming to a very similar design. The Kanavos smartphone deviates from the [iPhone](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iphone-vision)-esque model with a [compartmentalized interface](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blank-spaces-app). Defined black lines cover the cellphone in the vertical and horizontal directions to divide the display and the entirety of the device into rectangles. On the front, these boxes act as app icons, presenting the user with a selection of frequently used utilities and programs. When browsing photos on the OS Kanavos smartphone, the thumbnails remain arranged in the same gridded format. Speech bubbles that show text messages also stick to these rigid parameters. Alexandros Stasinopoulos's concept is compelling one, both aesthetically and functionally that's optimized for organization and investigates the relationship between software and hardware. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 27% | Activity: 29% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Gridded Smartphone Interfaces:** Smartphone interfaces that divide the display and device into rectangles offer innovative ways of presenting frequently used apps to users. - **Optimized Organization:** Designing devices that are optimized for organization can improve functionality and user experience. - **Reimagined User Interfaces:** Exploring new ways of designing smartphone interfaces can lead to more compelling and functional concepts. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Smartphone Manufacturing:** Manufacturers can explore new designs for smartphone interfaces that prioritize organization and user experience. - **App Development:** Developers can create applications that fit into the gridded interface format to appeal to users looking for a more organized approach to smartphone use. - **Consumer Electronics Retail:** Retailers can offer users a new alternative to traditional smartphone interfaces with devices that utilize gridded interfaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Rotating Button Panel Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/phone-one.md) - [Posh Pill-Shaped Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nokia-infinity-pro.md) - [Simplistic Folding Clamshell Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/01-phone.md) - [Keyboard-Intact E-Ink Smartphones](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-minimalist-phone.md) - [Double-Display Smartphone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-phone.md) - [Dual-Display Smartphone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/iphone-vision.md) - [Sleek Sliding Smartphone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/conceptual-iphone-14.md) - [Hourglass-Shaped Phone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/meti.md) - [Industrial Smartphone Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/braun-what-if-phone.md)
