# Armor-Inspired Lighting 'Knight Light' by David Moreland By Nika Kubiak | Published 2009-05-01 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/k-night-table-lamps-lampshade-cut-out-by-david-moreland References: [davidmorelanddesign](http://www.davidmorelanddesign.com/#) & [ray20](http://ray20.com/blog/2009/01/knighty-knight/) New Zealand designer David Moreland develops his own furniture and accessories. His latest project is ‘Knight Light,’ a [modern-looking table lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/horizon-table-light) inspired by medieval armor. Its shape resembles an aluminum lampshade with a [laser cutout space for the light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-drape-light) to shine through. The name of the project gives me the inclination that a knight's headgear inspired this [innovative lamp](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-lighting-design). Moreland’s design will be on display as part of the exhibition ‘New Zealand Room’ in Venice, Italy. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.5/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 48% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Armor-inspired Lighting:** Opportunity for creating innovative lighting designs inspired by unconventional sources such as armor. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Design:** Opportunity for furniture designers to incorporate unique and unconventional lighting designs, such as armor-inspired lamps. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Scenic Architecture Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/architecture-inspired-table-lamp.md) - [Hand-Cast Crystal Glowing Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nola-lamp.md) - [Elegant Metal Perforated Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foreshadow-table-lamp.md) - [Ecological Dual Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-light.md) - [Archetypal Conical Light Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fragile-lamp.md) - [Stainless Steel Dynamic Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-table-lamp.md) - [Illuminating Stone-Made Table Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nau-design.md) - [Brutalist Bedside Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vestige-lamp.md) - [Mushroom-Inspired Outdoor Light](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kinno.md)
