# Minimalist Lidded Workspaces The K Desk by Rafa-kids Resembles the Letter It is Named After By Meghan Young | Published 2014-05-27 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/k-desk References: [rafa-kids](http://www.rafa-kids.com/shop/k-desk/) The K Desk can be likened to a [modernized school desk](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tobifant) in which the tabletop opened up like a lid to reveal a little storage area for books, [stationery and more](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/track-concept). Yet the K Desk is meant to be left opened while in use instead of closed like the original concept. This way, more surface is available to use as the lid of the K Desk becomes a bulletin board of sort for notes, decorations and more. Designed by Rafa-kids, a studio based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, the K Desk can be used closed as well. When closed, it boasts a [minimalist style](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/single-desk) that is hard to beat. Made out of wood, the K Desk boasts rounded edges, invisible connectors and soft closing lid that are all child-friendly. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.3/10 - Popularity: 91% | Activity: 61% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Minimalist Workspaces:** Designing workspaces with a focus on minimalism, simplicity and functionality. - **Lidded Desks:** Incorporating lidded desks that can be used for storage and as bulletin boards. - **Child-friendly Furniture:** Creating furniture specifically designed to be safe, durable and comfortable for children. ### Where This Applies - **Furniture:** Opportunities for furniture manufacturers to create innovative, functional, and space-saving designs that cater to modern work and play needs. - **Education:** Incorporating child-friendly furniture into schools and learning environments for more functional and interactive spaces. - **Design:** Opportunities for designers to create functional and safe furniture that caters to new trends and the changing needs of consumers. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Minimalist Storage-Paired Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/diag-desk.md) - [Fold-Away Sleek Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flip-desk.md) - [Minimalist Modular Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/console-desk.md) - [Pocket Storage-Equipped Workstations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pocket-desk.md) - [Minimally Refined Wall Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wall-desk-1.md) - [Minimalist Storage-Friendly Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-bold-desk.md) - [Modular Fold-Out Desk Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/foldable-wooden-workstation.md) - [Knick-Knack Storage Desks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spiky-desk-concept.md) - [Cat-Friendly Minimal Desk Concepts](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cat-cubby-desk.md)
