# City-Mapped Flat Sinks Julia Kononenko Designed a Flat Sink Patterned with the London Map By Simal Yilmaz | Published 2013-04-04 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/julia-kononenko References: [visualnews](http://www.visualnews.com/2013/04/03/water-map-a-flat-wood-sink-modeled-after-london/) & [kononenkoid](http://kononenkoid.com) Julia Kononenko's [flat sink](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/posco) is a work of art for more than its design component. Primarily, the sink is designed in a way that although it looks as though the water should be splashing on the floor once the sink is tuned on, it is in fact made to flow back to a [hidden drain](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modern-urinal-design). Another amazing feature of the design is the thought behind the Water Map that Kononenko has created on the sink. The Water Map is modeled after the streets of [central London](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neon-1), one of the main origins of the 19th-century industrial revolution. Flat sinks are already a mind-blowing design entirely on their own. Integrating this with the pattern with the cityscape of a culturally relevant city is the work of an artist. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.1/10 - Popularity: 17% | Activity: 8% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Flat Sinks with Hidden Drain:** The integration of hidden drains in flat sinks creates a unique and visually stunning design while maintaining functionality. - **City-inspired Design Elements:** Incorporating city maps or landmarks into design elements like sinks adds a touch of artistic flair to everyday objects. - **Artistic Functional Decor:** Blending functionality and artistry in home decor, such as flat sinks designed like city maps, elevates interior design to a new level. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** Innovative flat sink designs offer an opportunity for interior designers to create unique and visually striking spaces. - **Home Improvement:** The integration of hidden drains in flat sinks presents an opportunity for the home improvement industry to offer more functional and stylish options to consumers. - **Art and Design:** Artists and designers can explore the incorporation of city maps or landmarks into everyday objects, like sink designs, to create functional art pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Angular Ceramic Sink Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/angle-washbasin.md) - [Water Flow-Inspired Kiln Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volta-collection.md) - [Electric Kiln-Made Unique Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/volta-1.md) - [Sculptural 3D-Printed Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/3d-printed-sink.md) - [Reinventive Modern Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen.md) - [Ultra-Modern Freestanding Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/freestanding-sink.md) - [Collaborative Seashell-Like Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/spire-washbasin.md) - [Textural Bathroom Sink Basins](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/washbasin-collection.md) - [Tech-Equipped Kitchen Sinks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/luxury-kitchen-sink.md)
