Medellin, Colombia-based designer and sculptor Juana Piedrahita recently produced a slew of bulgy eyed characters that are sure to raise a few eyebrows.

When most people think of [toy design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pop-top), words like cute, childish, innocent and playful come to mind. However, these dolls from Piedrahita, collectively titled 'The Circus,' would have a hard time inspiring such lighthearted connotations.

From miniature cyclopses to [dispondant alien-like creatures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alien-vases), these are not the kind of toys one would normally give to children. To appreciate the [unsettling qualities](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amazing-digital-circus) of Piedrahita's work in more detail, consider one particularly offbeat creation. It has only a single bulging eye, a mustache and wears lipstick. Furthermore, none of the dolls have any arms or legs. Such strange qualities could almost be whimsical if they were not so off-putting.
