The Edmund Room is located in the new Volkshotel Amsterdam and is one of the nine "special rooms" in the hotel. A number of objects made out of wood and rubber have been clustered together to form a modern mountain shape. The sculptural element serves many purposes, as it includes storage, stairs, a bed frame and bathroom. As Jos Blom puts it, "the mountain contains all the room’s functionality with the pinnacle bathtub being the absolute highlight." This is also an incredibly [clever use of space](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cabanon). The light would shade and building block aspect is reminiscent of Charlie's apartment as showcased in an older season of the [HBO](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jet-itinerary) television program Girls. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.0/10 - Popularity: 86% | Activity: 56% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [World](https://www.trendhunter.com/world) > [Hip Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/hiphotels) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Multifunctional Furniture:** The mountain-inspired furniture demonstrates the trend of multifunctional design, combining various elements and functionalities in one piece. - **Space Optimization:** The clever use of space in the Edmund Room highlights the trend of optimizing space in interior design, maximizing functionality within limited areas. - **Sculptural Elements:** The incorporation of sculptural elements in the furniture design showcases the trend of blending art and functionality, creating visually appealing and unique pieces. ### Who This Affects Most - **Interior Design:** The multifunctional furniture trend presents opportunities for interior designers to create innovative and space-efficient solutions for residential and commercial spaces. - **Hospitality:** The clever use of space in the hotel room design showcases opportunities for the hospitality industry to create unique and functional guest experiences. - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The incorporation of sculptural elements in furniture design opens up opportunities for manufacturers to create visually striking and functional furniture pieces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Topographical Recycled Coffee Tables](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/two-coffee-tables.md) - [Mountainous Modular Office Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/summit-furniture.md) - [Off-Grid Mountain Shelter Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/genius-show.md) - [Climbing Rope-Crafted Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/entwined-objects.md) - [Mountainside-Inspired Bespoke Hotels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bouchardon-hotel.md) - [Stylish Oakwood Storage Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moose-cabinet.md) - [Wilderness-Inspired Furniture Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/habitat-collection.md) - [Dual-Function Seating Shelves](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/rubik-stool.md) - [Nature-Inspired Rocky Furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pebble-rubble.md)
