# Suspended Cloud Paintings Dutch Artist Joris Kuipers is Whimsically Colorful By Meghan Young | Published 2013-06-07 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joris-kuipers References: [thisiscolossal](http://www.thisiscolossal.com/2013/06/suspended-cloud-paintings-by-joris-kuipers/) & [joriskuipers](http://www.joriskuipers.com/) Beautifully abstract, Joris Kuipers has created a [suspended sculpture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/duo-1) that brings a bit of the outdoors inside. Shaped like a few cumulus clouds, the shapes have been colorfully painted as though to represent the colors a setting sun. Of course, the hues are not necessarily customary of such a stunning sight. Nevertheless, Joris Kuipers' installation does allow the imagination to run rampant. Currently based in Rotterdam, the Netherlands, and a resident of the [European Ceramic Work Centre](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/european-space-agency-1) (EKCW), Joris Kuipers may have studied traditional painting and fine art techniques at both the Arnhem Academy and the [Frank Mohr Institute](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/victory-cruise-line) in Groningen, but his installations are anything but traditional. Nevertheless, the techniques he learned are clearly in play. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.1/10 - Popularity: 48% | Activity: 66% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Abstract Installation Art:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in the art world by creating abstract installation pieces that challenge traditional techniques and materials. - **Indoor Nature-inspired Sculptures:** There is a potential for disruptive innovation in the sculpture industry through the creation of indoor sculptures that capture the beauty and essence of natural elements. - **Whimsical Colorful Designs:** There is an opportunity for disruptive innovation in design by creating whimsical and brightly colored installations that spark imagination and creativity. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Creative Industries:** Disruptive innovation opportunities can be explored in the art and creative industries by challenging traditional art forms and techniques. - **Sculpture Industry:** The sculpture industry can benefit from disruptive innovation by exploring new materials and techniques to create visually striking indoor sculptures. - **Design Industry:** There is a potential for disruptive innovation in the design industry by creating imaginative and vibrant installations that defy traditional design norms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Intricate Site-Specific Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/folded-time.md) - [3D-Printed Colorful Vessels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/olivier-van-herpt-1.md) - [Mesmerizing Fluid Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flow-fountain.md) - [Organic Cloud-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/khmara.md) - [Breathtaking Woven Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woven-installation.md) - [Colorfully Inflatable Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blowup-art-the-hague.md) - [Wooden Light-Hearted Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-sculpture.md) - [Colorful Large-Scale Ceramic Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/studio-floris-rubben.md) - [Illuminated Curtained Light Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/making-the-invisible-visible.md)
