# Dixie Cup Lighting Jonathan Ferrer Builds an Eco Illuminator from Cups and Clothes Hangers By Michael Hines | Published 2010-12-11 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonathan-ferrer References: [tuvie](http://www.tuvie.com/found-objects-lamp-design-by-jonathan-ferrer/) If the word "upcycling" is foreign to you, then I suggest you take a look at Jonathan Ferrer's found object lamp. Jonathan Ferrer designed this haunting eco illuminator using paper cups and hangers held together with compression fitting and paper clips. Upcycling is the art of turning an object into something more useful instead of recycling it. Upcycling and found object art tend to go hand-in-hand, as Jonathan Ferrer's work proves. This lamp is powered by a 60-watt bulb that emits beautiful shadows all around the room. I can't think of a home that wouldn't look better with this lamp in it. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.9/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 62% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 10% men, 90% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Upcycling:** Opportunity for businesses to repurpose objects into new and useful products. - **Found Object Art:** Chance for artists to create unique and eco-friendly pieces by incorporating unconventional materials. - **Eco Illuminators:** Emerging trend in sustainable lighting design, creating beautiful and eco-friendly lighting solutions. ### Who This Affects Most - **Home Decor:** Potential for businesses to incorporate upcycled and found object art into home lighting and decor. - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists to create and sell found object art pieces in the market. - **Sustainable Design:** Growing industry for developing innovative and eco-friendly lighting solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Recycled Lighting Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nytt-lys-collection.md) - [Recycled Material Lamp Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozy-cleo-lamp.md) - [Sustainable Upcycled Glass Cups](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hmm-design.md) - [Compact Elaborate LED Smart-Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cup-lamp.md) - [Recycled Paper Pulp Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/modular-lamp1.md) - [Ecological Dual Lampshade Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/air-light.md) - [Paper-Made Origami Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hanging-origami-lamp.md) - [Discarded Theater Screen Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/discarded-theater-screen.md) - [Organic Paper-Like Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/farolito.md)
