# Stinging Sandy Sculptures This Jonathan Bouchard Bee Sand Sculpture is Astonishing By Courtney Scharf | Published 2012-07-24 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonathan-bouchard References: [obviouswinner](http://www.obviouswinner.com/obvwin/2012/7/23/awesome-to-bee-or-not-to-be-sand-sculpture.html) & [reverebeachpartnership](http://reverebeachpartnership.com/sandsculpting/) For obvious reasons, this Jonathan Bouchard bee sand sculpture took the cake at a recent competition in Montreal. The bee depicted in Bouchard's creation is not your average, cartoonish buzzing friend. Instead, this bee is quite sinister looking, and is perhaps best described as a killer wasp. Whether it was the amazing execution of the project, or the more literal artistic representation of the creature, this sculpture by Bouchard is a winner on many levels. As many readers can appreciate, sand is an exceptionally difficult medium to work with, and the odds of it holding up through environmental conditions are slim. It may be the temporality of sand, however, that makes this such an interesting form of expression. Mastering the approach and taking it to the next level, Jonathan Bouchard is an impressive talent with a unique edge. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.2/10 - Popularity: 38% | Activity: 80% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Sinister Sand Sculptures:** Creating sand sculptures with a dark and unconventional twist. - **Temporality as Art:** Exploring the use of temporary materials in artistic expression. - **Mastering Sand as a Medium:** Pushing the boundaries of what can be achieved with sand as an artistic medium. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Sculpture:** Opportunities for artists to create unique and attention-grabbing sculptures using unconventional materials and methods. - **Event and Entertainment:** Incorporating sand sculptures with dark themes into events to provide an unconventional and memorable experience. - **Cultural Tourism:** Creating sand sculpture exhibitions and installations as attractions for tourists seeking unique and temporary artistic experiences. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Bug-Inspired Jewelry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/murder-hornet-ring.md) - [Protest Sand Architecture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bland-castles.md) - [Science-Backed Wooden Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/seed-stories.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Mesmerizing Sand Pattern Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/crystal-sandsara.md) - [Physics-Informed Digital Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/motion-sculpture.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md)
