# Eccentric Household Paintings Jonas Wood Gives Viewers Voyeuristic Looks into Strange Living Areas By Jason Soy | Published 2012-05-03 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jonas-wood References: [bldgwlf](http://bldgwlf.com/jonas-wood/) & [davidkordanskygallery](http://www.davidkordanskygallery.com/?n=current&eid=69) Being invited into a household is something that requires a lot of trust, and because of that, these Jonas Wood paintings naturally seem intimate even if it’s your first time experiencing them. The Los Angeles-based artist gives viewers a voyeuristic look into the [living spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/residence-exhibition) of people from all walks of life, only he does so through [whimsically painted images](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/anima) that [contorts perspective](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/a-week-at-the-knees) to deliver the most effective visual punch. The results are an eclectic and eye-pleasing mix of strange, yet relatable illustrations. What’s notable about Jonas Wood’s work is that he isn’t preoccupied with making his subjects conform to the natural standards of beauty. Sure, he can paint babies with fewer wrinkles or depict men and women with more model-like features, but then he’d lose a considerable amount of charm inherent in these bizarre-looking people. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.6/10 - Popularity: 66% | Activity: 4% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Whimsical Perspective Art:** Opportunity for artists to create visually striking and perspective-altering artwork that captures viewers' attention. - **Intimate Voyeurism:** Opportunity to explore the concept of intimacy and voyeurism in various forms of art, literature, or design. - **Embracing Unconventional Beauty:** Opportunity for artists and designers to challenge societal beauty norms and celebrate the uniqueness of unconventional beauty. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Art:** Incorporating whimsical and perspective-bending techniques into various art forms, such as painting, sculpture, or digital art. - **Interior Design:** Exploring unconventional and eclectic design concepts that challenge traditional aesthetics and create visually intriguing living spaces. - **Fashion:** Promoting diversity and embracing unconventional beauty standards in fashion by featuring models with unique and captivating appearances. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Abstract Geometric Solo Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/impermanent-state-of-being.md) - [Suburban-Inspired Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/suburbaninspired-art-exhibition.md) - [American Art Furniture Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/american-art-furniture.md) - [Glass Beaded Intricate Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition.md) - [Human Duality-Themed Abstract Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/passive-aggression.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Fantasy Sculptural Furniture Pieces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chris-wolston.md) - [Object Design-Explorative Apartments](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/apartamento-secreto.md)
