# Macro Insectography John Hallmen Gets Intimately Close with Nature's Creepy Critters By Kamal Musharbash | Published 2010-10-23 | Unique Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/john-hallmen References: [whatthecool](http://whatthecool.com/post/1367362949/insane-macro-photographs-of-insects) & [flickr](http://www.flickr.com/photos/johnhallmen/) Photographer John Hallmen is a genius when it comes down to [uber-close-up photography](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-1). The clear, crisp and colorful photographs are a definite work of art; however, as much as the [creepy crawly critters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bug-table) freak out the majority of the population, Hallmen is a master with the camera. The [vibrant colors](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/small-muji) make these insects look a bit more appealing, yet the creepy factor still lures. What makes these pictures a tad humorous is that the bugs look like they're actually posing for the shoot and, in turn, make John Hallmen one great photographer. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.7/10 - Popularity: 89% | Activity: 74% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 70% men, 30% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Unique](https://www.trendhunter.com/unique) > [Bizarre](https://www.trendhunter.com/bizarre) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Macro Photography:** The rise of high-quality, super close-up macro photography is disrupting the traditional nature and wildlife photography market. - **Insect Art:** Artists are increasingly finding inspiration in insect photography, leading to new forms of mixed media art, sculptures and installations. - **Nature Conservation:** Macro insect photography is helping to raise awareness about the beauty and importance of the natural world, leading to new opportunities for conservation education and advocacy. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Photography:** Professional photographers can offer new, high-end macro photography services for clients in the nature, wildlife and art industries. - **Art:** Curators and art consultants can leverage insect photography to create new buzz-worthy exhibits and sales opportunities in the contemporary art market. - **Nature Conservation:** Conservation organizations and environmental advocacy groups can incorporate macro insect photography into their marketing and educational materials to engage and inspire the public. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Insect-Inspired Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-bronze-sculptures.md) - [Bug-Inspired Jewelry](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/murder-hornet-ring.md) - [Pro-Grade Macro Smartphone Lenses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-75mm-macro-lens.md) - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Life-Sized Puzzled Insect Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/insect-collection.md) - [Edible Insect Lollipops](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pest-infested-pops.md) - [Insect-Inspired Technical Baggage](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/metamorphosis-collection.md) - [Macro Smartphone Lenses](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/moment-1.md)
