John Franzen is a German artist who has mastered a deceptively simple form of [freehand drawing](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/simple-drawing-ideas). Entirely made up of relatively straight [parallel lines](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pencilify-ai), his artworks take on a streaky aesthetic that is [visually striking](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/optical-flow). In a way, it is hard to perceive the drawings as made up of such lines. Instead, they flow together as though John Franzen managed to capture the essence of a waterfall.

Living and working in Maastricht, Netherlands, John Franzen's works of arts are surprisingly very different from each other in spite of the fact that he uses the same technique over and over again. By spacing out the lines different with each stroke, he manages to create patterns in the drawings that are utterly captivating. It is incredible to watch the concentration needed for each line drawn.
