# Waterproof Grass Cutters The John Deere Tango E5 Mower Can Trim the Lawn in the Rain By Sarah Moore | Published 2012-06-15 | Tech Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/john-deere-tango-e5 References: [gizmag](http://www.gizmag.com/john-deere-tango-e5-robot-lawnmower/22940/) & [deere](http://www.deere.com/wps/dcom/en_INT/products/equipment/autonomous_mower/tango_e5/tango_e5.page) The John Deere TANGO E5 autonomous lawn mower is the newest addition to a lineup of robotic devices developed to let homeowners kick back while the machine perfectly manicures their grass. This little droid can be programmed to cut the lawn with minimal supervision -- even in a torrential downpour. Most mowers have trouble chomping down greenery when its slick and wet but John Deere's creation allows users to keep dry while it goes to work at creating a yard that will leave neighbors envious. It's not overly effective for extremely long grass however, as it is a mulch-style cutter that distributes the clippings over the yard. It also needs to have a special wire around the perimeter of the yard installed to avoid the mower wandering off course and shredding up the neighbor's flowerbed. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 15% | Activity: 41% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Tech](https://www.trendhunter.com/tech) > [Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/robots) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Autonomous Lawn Mowers:** The development of autonomous lawn mowers like the John Deere Tango E5 presents opportunities for disruptive innovation in the landscaping industry. - **Waterproof Lawn Care Equipment:** The waterproof feature of the John Deere Tango E5 mower opens up possibilities for disruptive innovation in the gardening and outdoor equipment industry. - **Smart Yard Maintenance Solutions:** The use of smart technology in the John Deere Tango E5 and similar devices allows for disruptive innovation in the home maintenance and automation industry. ### Who This Affects Most - **Landscaping:** The availability of autonomous lawn mowers creates disruptive innovation opportunities in the landscaping industry. - **Gardening and Outdoor Equipment:** The waterproof feature of the John Deere Tango E5 mower presents disruptive innovation opportunities in the gardening and outdoor equipment industry. - **Home Maintenance and Automation:** The use of smart technology in the John Deere Tango E5 and similar devices offers disruptive innovation opportunities in the home maintenance and automation industry. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Robotic Lawn Mowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/robotic-mower.md) - [High-Power Five-Blade Robot Mowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neomow-x-3d.md) - [Automated Lawn Care Technologies](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/automated-lawn-care-technology.md) - [Auto-Mulching Robotic Lawnmowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airseekers-tron-360-ai-vision-robotic-mower.md) - [Low-Noise Robotic Lawnmowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/husqvarna-automower-415x.md) - [Multifunctional Lawn Care Robots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ecoflow-blade.md) - [LiDAR-Equipped Robotic Mowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oasa-r1.md) - [Robotic AI-Powered Lawnmowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/smart-cyber-mower.md) - [AI-Supported Robot Lawnmowers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/navimow-i-series.md)
