# Independent Aqua-Releasing Pots The Joey Roth Self-Watering Planter Saves Lives By Vivian Lau | Published 2012-06-24 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/joey-roth-self-watering-planter References: [coolhunting](http://www.coolhunting.com/design/self-watering-planter.php) & [joeyroth](http://joeyroth.com/) If you did not inherit your mother's green thumb, the Joey Roth [self-watering planter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hemisphere) will save you from family banishment. The earthenware pot is dual-chambered with water held in the inner section (there is a lid to prevent evaporation). The material of the pot is porous, which means that with time, water will seep out in a measured fashion. This way, your plants will always have a supply of water to drink from! This ingenious design is perfect for those who are always away traveling, or for those who are just forgetful. Inspired by [outdoor irrigation systems](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/plant-irrigation) of Native American Tribes, Roth's goal was to harness its power to make a mini, household version. The [donut-shaped plant holder](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tilt-planter) sells for $45. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 10% | Activity: 20% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Self-watering Planters:** Self-watering planters provide a convenient solution for those who struggle with plant care, presenting opportunities for innovative designs and materials. - **Smart Home Gardening:** The integration of technology into gardening, such as self-watering planters, opens up possibilities for automated and connected gardening systems. - **Sustainable Irrigation:** The use of innovative, self-watering planters reduces water waste and promotes sustainable irrigation practices. ### Where This Applies - **Home and Garden:** The self-watering planter industry offers opportunities for product development and design in the home and garden sector. - **Technology:** The integration of smart features into gardening systems creates opportunities for technology companies to enter the home gardening market. - **Sustainable Living:** The adoption of self-watering planters aligns with the growing trend of sustainable living, presenting opportunities for eco-friendly businesses to offer innovative gardening solutions. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Self-Watering Flowerpots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gropot.md) - [Self-Watering Smart Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-leafypod.md) - [Smart Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tendril-1.md) - [Self-Watering Desk Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/posha.md) - [Futuristic Self-Watering Planters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-klaustrafloria.md) - [Uniquely Shaped Self-Watering Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/self-watering-plant-house.md) - [Spherical Self-Watering Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-basil-selfwatering-globe.md) - [Self-Watering Plant Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vivo-pot.md) - [Two-in-One Plant Pots](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/selfwatering-planter-propagation-station.md)
