# Pure White Properties Jin Otagiri Designs a Colorless, Minimalist House in Japan By Rose Nazarali | Published 2009-08-05 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jin-otagiri-minimalist-house References: [dornob](http://dornob.com/minimalist-living-stark-modern-home-interior-design/) & [spaceinvading](http://www.spaceinvading.com/entry/project_id/GHOST_House200901141231966575) Jin Otagiri is a [Japanese architect](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/oku-house) who has designed this [minimalist-structured house](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus). The house is stark white with seemingly little design and style. However, once you take a closer look, the interior of this unusual home is full of stagnant angles and geometric shapes to add an aesthetically pleasing quality to a simple design. The dark wood floors contrast nicely with the white interior and adds a bit of dimension. **Implications** - This house is the perfect example of how a simple, minimalist idea can create such a strong and unique aesthetic that the house takes on a futuristic aura. Not only does this combine the consumer desire for originality with modernity, but it almost certainly ensures that visitor's will be impressed by the house's upscale but not overdone look. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 4.8/10 - Popularity: 64% | Activity: 72% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Minimalist Aesthetics:** The trend for simple, minimalist designs with unique, geometric features to create a futuristic look and feel. - **Upscale Simplicity:** The trend for using simple designs and high-quality materials to create an overall luxury look and feel. - **Geometric Detailing:** The trend for using abstract and geometric shapes as a feature of the design, adding depth and dimension to minimalist designs. ### Who This Affects Most - **Architecture:** Architects can incorporate minimalist designs and unique geometric shapes to create luxury homes, hotels, and public buildings with a futuristic feel. - **Interior Design:** Interior designers can create chic, upscale spaces with minimalistic, geometric designs and high-quality materials. - **Furniture Design:** Furniture designers can create modern, geometric pieces that fit seamlessly with a minimalist design aesthetic. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Compact White-Painted Modern Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/whitepainted-modern-home.md) - [Lofty Minimalist Living Spaces](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/minimalist-living-space1.md) - [White Fabric-Style Facade Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nyori.md) - [Japanese Minimalism Portland Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mori-house.md) - [Refined Modern Dwellings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/silver-house.md) - [Japanese-Inspired Elevated Pied-à-Terres](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/piedterre.md) - [Clear Glazing Compact Residences](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/check-patterned-house.md) - [Monochromatic Minimal Cozy Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vaulted-monochrome-haus.md) - [Minimal Philosophy Toronto Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/forest-hill-residence.md)
