Japanese designer Jin Kuramoto's Nadia collection takes inspiration from a subject that few people, and understandably so, are familiar with: [Japanese shipbuilding techniques](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/woodcarving-heritage). According to Kuramoto, many Japanese carpenters sourced their techniques from shipbuilders. The furniture found in Nadia is all made using the Japanese kumiki technique.

Kumiki involves [interlocking wood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/formwork-collection) to create support. Indeed, many of these pieces look like the frames of wooden ships when viewed from underneath. Nadia first appears to be just another set of [modern furniture](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nudo-20), but the more you learn about it the more you realize that it's almost a functional history lesson for your home. Jin Kuramoto has indeed found an interesting way to both pay tribute to his country's heritage through his work.
