# Tree Painting From Jessica Rath's Latex-Painted Tree to Other Uncommon Paint Jobs By Katherinev123 | Published 2009-07-21 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jessica-raths-latex-painted-tree References: [jessicarath](http://www.jessicarath.com/ART/Art/Pages/TREE_PEEL.html) & [paintedtree](http://www.paintedtree.com/) Not only do they produce oxygen and look great lining a sidewalk, [trees can be wonderful art canvases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1). As Jessica Rath’s latex-painted tree shows, all you need is imagination and a paintbrush to turn a tree into a natural work of art. Rath’s recent installation at the Ben Maltz gallery at the [Otis College of Art and Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/customizable-desk-organizer) in Los Angeles showcased a truncated, serpentine-branched apricot tree, which she created out of the painted mold of the tree in her backyard. She appropriately titled it “Tree Peel." The trend is budding, as other (probably bored) artists turn to their yards and gardens with [cans of paint](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/glasst). Devilish red, bold blue – take your pick, but choose water-based paint so you don’t end up killing your tree instead. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.3/10 - Popularity: 7% | Activity: 23% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [DIY](https://www.trendhunter.com/diy) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Tree Painting:** Using trees as canvases for art is a growing trend, with opportunities for artists and environmentalists to work together. - **Natural Art Installations:** Creating outdoor art installations using natural elements like trees offers a unique experience for viewers and artists alike. - **Eco-friendly Art:** The trend of using eco-friendly materials and techniques in art, such as water-based paint on trees, is on the rise. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Art and Design:** Artists have the opportunity to use natural elements like trees in their work, creating unique and innovative art installations. - **Environmental Conservation:** Environmentalists can work with artists to promote conservation efforts, incorporating art installations that showcase the beauty of nature. - **Eco-friendly Products:** Companies can create and market eco-friendly paints and materials that can be used in tree painting and other art forms. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Resin Gravity Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-great-tree.md) - [Tree-Based Material Products](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/abney-effect.md) - [Leftover Househouse Paint Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/paint-drop.md) - [Air-Purifying Tree Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/treeone.md) - [Pixelated Photographed Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/southern-trees.md) - [Vibrantly Colorful Dynamic Artwork](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kayla-rumpp.md) - [Vaulted Structural Telescopic Treehouse](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/artistree-home.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md) - [Tree Branch-Formed Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/celestial-attraction.md)
