# Ribboned Sea Creature Lighting The Jellyfish Lamp Has an Ethereal and Exotic Draping Effect By Meghan Young | Published 2011-07-28 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jellyfish-lamp References: [design-milk](http://design-milk.com/jellyfish-lamp/) & [thejellyfishlamp](http://www.thejellyfishlamp.com/) Many designers seem to be very fascinated with [jellyfish](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/pet-jellyfish), as there has been countless creations modeled after them and the Jellyfish Lamp is simply the latest. Because these underwater creatures are quite beautifully alienesque, I can see exactly what all the fuss is about. Created by Argentinian art director Paula Benvegnu and UK designer Tristan Cochrane -- both of whom are currently based in Barcelona -- the Jellyfish Lamp is just as [ethereal and exotic](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/big-glow-light) as the sea creatures themselves. Made out of 300 to 400 meters of ribbon, the Jellyfish Lamp are available in a range of different sizes and colors. Although the Jellyfish Lamp is a rather abstract take on this creature, [draping effect of the ribbons](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/drape-light) is divine. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.1/10 - Popularity: 71% | Activity: 73% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Jellyfish-inspired Design:** Opportunity for designers and artists to create more jellyfish-inspired products and art pieces. - **Ribbon Crafting:** Potential for ribbon crafting to be used as a design element in various products and industries. - **Exotic Lighting:** Demand for unique and ethereal lighting fixtures for homes and commercial spaces. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Interior Design:** Jellyfish-inspired decor and lighting can be incorporated in interior design. - **Art:** Ribbon crafting can be used as a medium for art pieces. - **Home Decor:** Exotic lighting can enhance the ambiance of homes and other living spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Pasta-Inspired Curvaceous Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic-lamp.md) - [Fishnet-Made Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/philips-mycreation-droplet-lamp.md) - [Dreamlike Bubble-Shaped Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/airshape-lamp.md) - [Hat-Like Fabric Illuminators](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/flying-lamp.md) - [Poetic Rippling Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/yurameki.md) - [Eclipse-Inspired Whimsical Pendant Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/space-traveler.md) - [Posh Paper Craft-Inspired Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/japandi-lamp.md) - [Bulbous Whimsical Lighting Series](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/neotenic.md) - [Coral-Form Lighting Capsules](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/alherd.md)
