# Arrested Primate Paintings Jean-Marie Vives Renders Realistic Scenes of Fantastical Premises By Jason Soy | Published 2012-08-16 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jeanmarie-vives References: [sweet-station](http://sweet-station.com/blog/2012/08/jean-marie-vives/) & [jeanmarievives](http://www.jeanmarievives.com/) It’s not difficult to confuse the paintings of Jean-Marie Vives for photographs. After all, his [realist approach](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/looks-delicious) is so convincing that he regularly lands jobs in [Hollywood](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/marilyn-monroe-barbie) as a matte painter. But the illusions he creates are ultimately betrayed when you realize just how absurd his paintings truly are, and that's precisely why he renders them. For instance, in this gallery, viewers are treated to multiple images of a police force arresting various primates. I’ll admit, I thought these pictures were real myself, with their authentic motion blur and high level of detail, but your eyes have simply been lied to by one of the most talented artists working in the industry. Also featured in this Jean-Marie Vives gallery are images of homeless and incarcerated polar bears. Before you say, “how could anyone possibly fall for that?” take a look at these [remarkable paintings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/painting-exhibition) yourself and then decide. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 1.0/10 - Popularity: 18% | Activity: 5% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Realistic Illusions:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating realistic illusions through art and visual effects. - **Fantastical Art:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating fantastical and thought-provoking artwork. - **Absurd Realism:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in combining realism with absurd and unexpected elements in art. ### Who This Affects Most - **Film and Entertainment:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in using realistic illusions and fantastical art in film production and visual effects. - **Fine Art:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in pushing the boundaries of realism and creating thought-provoking artwork. - **Advertising and Marketing:** Disruptive innovation opportunities in using absurd realism to capture attention and convey unique messages in advertising campaigns. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Painting-Immersive Photo Exhibits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/new-ground-exhibition.md) - [Otherwordly Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/william-monk.md) - [Digital Archetype Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/christian-rex-van-minnen-1.md) - [Avant-Garde Sculptural Editions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptural-edition.md) - [Otherworldly Wooden Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wooden-sculptures-1.md) - [AI-Generated Real-World Transformations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ai-generated-world.md) - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Archival Pigment Art Print](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/parallax.md) - [Statement Street Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1.md)
