# Tree Branch Lighting Industrial Designer Jay Watson Melds Rugged with Sleek in Pendant Lamps By Meghan Young | Published 2013-09-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jay-watson References: [trendir](http://www.trendir.com/archives/006924.html) & [jaywatsondesign](http://www.jaywatsondesign.com/) Jay Watson, an industrial designer based in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, has created a series of [pendant lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightmass) that bridges the gap between rugged and sleek beautifully. Although Jay Watson made them with essentially [untouched tree branches](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/hoop-table-lamp), the use of almost identical pieces as well as the finishing touches of LED lights and red cords really give the light fixtures a polished aesthetic. Considering that Jay Watson's designs often follow an [environmentally conscious design motto](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/corka), it is no surprise that his lights are so inspired by nature. As Trendir points out, Jay Watson "hand-picks tree branches from his own property to drill out and fit the latest kind of low-energy-use LED inside with an exit through the bottom, resulting in a hanging light with preserved moss and wood textures" ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 5.4/10 - Popularity: 85% | Activity: 70% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### Why This Trend Is Growing - **Sustainable Lighting:** The use of natural materials and low-energy LED lights in pendant lighting creates opportunities for sustainable and eco-friendly lighting solutions. - **Rustic-chic Design:** Blending rugged tree branches with sleek finishes and modern LED technology offers disruptive innovation potential for creating rustic-chic lighting fixtures that appeal to design-conscious consumers. - **Nature-inspired Decor:** The incorporation of untouched tree branches and preserved moss textures in pendant lighting taps into the growing trend of nature-inspired decor, providing opportunities for unique and organic design concepts. ### Industries Being Reshaped - **Interior Design:** Interior design professionals can explore the use of tree branch lighting to enhance the ambiance of spaces and add a touch of nature-inspired charm. - **Sustainable Architecture:** The integration of sustainable lighting solutions like tree branch pendant lights can contribute to eco-friendly building designs and sustainable architecture practices. - **Lighting Manufacturing:** Manufacturers in the lighting industry can leverage the trend of tree branch lighting to create innovative and visually striking lighting products that cater to consumers seeking unique and nature-inspired designs. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Plant Pod-Inspired Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/nature-inspired-pendant-light.md) - [American Oak Pendant Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/light-bean.md) - [Sculptural Wooden Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arc-lamp.md) - [Mixed Material Pendant Lights](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/gant-pendant-lights.md) - [Timber Wood Handmade Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/onu-series.md) - [Wooden Pendant Lamp Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/wood-collection-1.md) - [Skateboarding-Inspired Wood Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/blue-green-works.md) - [Pine Wood-Inspired Minimal Lamps](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jakobsson.md) - [Bamboo-Inspired Glass Lighting](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bamboo-forest-glss.md)
