From the dynamic poses to the overabundance of shadows, each image entices viewers to examine its details while they decipher what scene the renderings are depicting. Olivares’ limited use of color, which he compensates with flurries of brushstroke-like details, gives his images a distinct visual punch unlike the work of his contemporaries. It would be easy to classify Javier Olivares’ visual style as [art deco](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/atypique-1), but his work is different in that it has hints of Saturday morning cartoons as well as comic book art. Olivares often uses Victorian-era novels as inspiration for his [shadow-intensive drawings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lightware-series). ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.0/10 - Popularity: 46% | Activity: 7% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 90% men, 10% women - Primary generations: Millennial - Top markets: North America, Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Pseudo Art Deco Illustrations:** Opportunity for artists to explore the fusion of art deco elements with other visual styles to create unique and captivating illustrations. - **Mystery Novel-inspired Artwork:** Chance for artists to draw inspiration from classic mystery novels and create visually compelling illustrations that capture the essence of the stories. - **Limited Color Palette with Brushstroke Details:** Innovative approach to using limited colors and incorporating brushstroke-like details in illustrations, providing a visually striking result. ### Who This Affects Most - **Art and Illustration:** Artists and illustrators can tap into the demand for visually captivating and unique artwork inspired by literature and different visual styles. - **Publishing:** Publishing houses can explore the inclusion of innovative and visually engaging illustrations in mystery novels to enhance the reading experience and attract more readers. - **Graphic Design:** Graphic designers can adopt the limited color palette and brushstroke details technique in their designs to create impactful visual communication materials. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Sculpturally Provocative Vases](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vibrant-sculptural-vase.md) - [Sci-Fi-Inspired Classical Posters](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sen-donnan.md) - [AI-Generated Retrofuturistic Objects](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/retrofuturistic-objects.md) - [Luxuriously Artistic Homes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/child-studio1.md) - [Mind-Bending Graphic Novels](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/incal.md) - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Storytelling Literary Perfumes](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dotto-fragrances-literature-collection.md) - [Customizable Book Portraits](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/lagom-collection1.md) - [Artful Soft-Pink Dining Rooms](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-gallery-at-sketch.md)
