# Geometric Tile-Like Installations Javier De Riba's Striking Art Mimics Intricate Floor Patterns By Meghan Young | Published 2015-06-06 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/javier-de-riba References: [fubiz.net](http://www.fubiz.net/en/2015/06/02/geometric-tile-like-patterns-sprayed-on-floors-in-abandoned-buildings/) & [javierderiba](http://www.javierderiba.com/) Tiling floors (or walls) is an art form in and of itself, so it's only natural that someone -- in this case Spanish artist Javier De Riba -- would endeavor to mimic the [intricate patterns](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/mathematically-shaped) as their own installations. But instead of using actual tiles, Javier De Riba spray paints the patterns directly on the floor to create a [convincing illusion](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ripples-collection). What makes Javier De Riba's work even more impressive is where they are found. He brings a bright slice of color into the derelict spaces of [abandoned buildings](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surreal-street-art-1). As written on his website, "His journey is an ongoing battle against stagnancy, in favour of versatility and innovation." He definitely succeeds at that with these murals. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 3.3/10 - Popularity: 54% | Activity: 38% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: Europe ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) ## Key Themes ### Key Themes Behind This Trend - **Geometric Tile-like Installations:** Opportunity to innovate by creating new techniques for mimicking intricate tile patterns using alternative materials. - **Artistic Spray Paint:** Disruptive opportunity to explore new ways of applying spray paint in unconventional settings, such as abandoned buildings. - **Revitalizing Derelict Spaces:** Potential for disruptive innovation in repurposing abandoned buildings as unconventional canvases for art installations. ### Where This Applies - **Art and Design:** Opportunity for artists and designers to experiment with new materials and techniques for creating intricate patterns. - **Urban Renewal:** Innovative approaches to revitalizing derelict spaces through art installations can contribute to urban renewal efforts. - **Street Art:** Opportunity for street artists to expand their canvas beyond traditional surfaces and explore unconventional spaces. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Oil Painting-Inspired Rugs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/antonio-santn.md) - [Nature-Inspired Urban Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/kriskadecor-1.md) - [Vibrant Tile Stickers](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/vinyl-tile-stickers.md) - [Tiled Restaurant Interior Murals](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cozinha-das-flores.md) - [Waffle-Like Patterned Ceramic Tiles](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/cubik.md) - [Vintage Graphics-Inspired Tile Collections](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/tile-collections.md) - [Surrealist Pop-Up Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/surrealist-popup.md) - [Optical Illusion Replica Artworks](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/liberty-science-center.md) - [Terracotta-Inspired Art Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/grounded-exhibtion.md)
