# Sheltering Wooden Seats The Janus Chair by Ryder Architecture is Awesome By Meghan Young | Published 2010-01-30 | Art & Design Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/janus-chair References: [contemporist](http://www.contemporist.com/2010/01/29/the-janus-chairs-by-ryder-architecture/) & [ryderarchitecture](http://www.ryderarchitecture.com/) From time to time, I enjoy a good sit outside with a book and a refreshing drink to keep me company, yet more often than not, the sun usually has me retreating inside to escape its glare; with the Janus Chair, I won’t have to worry about that. Designed by Ryder Architecture for the Kielder Water & Forest Park, they have created the sculptural, sheltering Janus Chair to combat such downsides. It’s not to say I don’t enjoy the sun, it’s just that it can be very distracting sometimes! ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.1/10 - Popularity: 53% | Activity: 3% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 30% men, 70% women - Primary generations: Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, Europe, Asia ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Art & Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/artdesign) > [Design](https://www.trendhunter.com/design) ## Key Themes ### What's Driving This Trend - **Sheltering Outdoor Furniture:** The Janus Chair demonstrates the trend of designing outdoor furniture that provides shelter and protection from the elements. - **Sculptural Design:** The Janus Chair showcases the trend of incorporating artistic and sculptural elements into furniture design. - **Enhanced Outdoor Experience:** The Janus Chair reflects the trend of creating outdoor seating solutions that optimize comfort and usability. ### Who This Affects Most - **Furniture Manufacturing:** The furniture manufacturing industry can explore opportunities to develop innovative, sheltering outdoor furniture designs like the Janus Chair. - **Architecture and Design:** The architecture and design industry can leverage sculptural elements, as seen in the Janus Chair, to create visually striking and functional furniture pieces. - **Tourism and Hospitality:** The tourism and hospitality industry can integrate enhanced outdoor seating options like the Janus Chair to provide guests with a more comfortable and enjoyable outdoor experience. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Tranquil Reading Seating](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/chapters-furniture.md) - [Arched Circular Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/eclipse-chair.md) - [Structurally Complex Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/the-arch-chair.md) - [Outdoor Scandinavian Seating Solutions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/bste-lounge-chair.md) - [Natural Sound-Amplifying Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/amplification-of-the-senses-chair.md) - [Stainless Steel Reflective Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/dream-view-chair.md) - [Childhood-Inspired Outdoor Chairs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/peace-outdoor-lounge.md) - [Relaxed Anti-Distraction Seats](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/fortune-chair.md) - [Posh Pet-Friendly Chair Designs](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/arch-chair-design.md)
