# Surrealist Organic Illustrations Artist Jane Lee Excels at Peaceful and Colorful Nature Portraits By Jordan Sowunmi | Published 2013-05-28 | Eco Source: Trend Hunter, https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/jane-lee References: [booooooom](http://www.booooooom.com/2013/05/23/artist-painter-jane-lee/) & [janelee.info](http://www.janelee.info/) Los Angeles-based illustrator Jane Lee is an artist with a penchant for creating artwork that showcases the beauty of solitude in nature, which she combines with surrealist imagery to produce pieces that are equal parts beautiful as they are unsettling. Jane Lee's partial portfolio is full of solitary charm. Many of her illustrations feature a single person in the forest, their bodes partly covered by foliage, their faces either obscured or locked in a melancholy grimace. Jane Lee excels at producing work that exudes a sense of calm while simultaneously expressing lonely longing. My favorite image in Jane Lee's partial portfolio features fellow artist and friend Edward Cushenberry. Edward is deeply ensconced in the leaves, kneeling, with a forceful grip on some shrubbery. The image showcases a strong skill Jane Lee has in spades: the ability to illustrate a person that appears uncomfortable, but seems like there's no place they'd rather be-- alone with their thoughts and feelings in the woods. ## Trend Insights (Trend Hunter) - Score: 2.7/10 - Popularity: 47% | Activity: 26% | Freshness: 8% - Audience gender: 50% men, 50% women - Primary generations: Gen Z, Gen Alpha, Millennial, Gen X - Top markets: North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa ## Categories [Trend Hunter](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends) > [Eco](https://www.trendhunter.com/eco) ## Key Themes ### What Makes This Trend Stand Out - **Nature Portraits:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in creating realistic nature portraits with a surrealist twist. - **Solitude in Art:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in exploring the emotions of loneliness and solitude through artistic interpretation. - **Melancholy Imagery:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in combining serene and melancholic elements to evoke emotional responses in visual art. ### Sectors Adopting This - **Fine Arts:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in the fine arts industry by incorporating surreal and emotional elements into nature portraiture. - **Digital Illustration:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in digital illustration by creating unique and thought-provoking artwork that blends realism and surrealism. - **Art Therapy:** Opportunity for disruptive innovation in art therapy by using nature portraits with surreal and melancholic elements to elicit introspection and emotional healing. ## Related on Trend Hunter - [Glamorous Artful Bronze Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sweet-jane.md) - [Human Duality-Themed Abstract Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/passive-aggression.md) - [Striking Urban Wildlife Art](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/clare-allin.md) - [Human Nature-Themed Art Galleries](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sea-im-awake.md) - [Kyoto-Inspired Solo Art Exhibitions](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/ode-to-kyoto.md) - [Biology-Inspired Porcelain Sculptures](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/shiyuan-xu.md) - [Hand-Painted Watercolor Prints](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/emma-webster.md) - [Outdoor Floral Sculpture Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/sculptures-at-kew-gardens.md) - [Nature-Inspired Installations](https://www.trendhunter.com/trends/humannature-1.md)
